It's been windy in Dallas for the better part of the last six weeks. Because I don't sail or fly kites, I can't see much value in the wind. In fact, it makes all of my outdoor activities (mostly related to house maintenance) more difficult.
Worse than that, though, is that the wind has interfered with the efforts of a pair of mourning doves to build a nest just above my garage. Every day, the male bird gathers various sticks and leaves and sets up a little starter nest on top of a row of bricks. Then the female bird comes and sits on it. Periodically, the male bird comes back with a new twig, a tuft of grass, an ottoman from IKEA, whatever...just something to make the nest a little more cozy.
Once the situation seems stable, the male bird sits there on top of my fence and watches over his mate, who sits on top of the nest--presumably hoping to lay a few eggs in a relatively safe/secluded spot.
But at some point, every day, all of this wondrous handiwork is blown away. The doves start over each time, but eventually they'll have to pick a new spot.
For some reason, I have a feeling that "eventually" begins tomorrow.
I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don't know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
